On May 08, 2011, nearly two hundred people gathered for an unforgettable morning at Soldier Field, Chicago, IL to participate in the 2nd Annual GUTRUNNERS™ 5K Race / 1 Mile Walk at DDW®. We were excited by the strong turnout and show of support—an increase of over 40% from the previous year. This increase is exciting news as Gutrunners continues to grow as a young organization. We were grateful to have broad support from the gastroenterology and local Chicago community, from corporations, and from individuals such as Connie Chung, who ran in honor of her mother who is battling colon cancer. In a touching and fitting tribute on Mother's Day, Connie, a young MBA student from Chicago, bravely shared her mother's story with all of us and announced that she is raising funds for GUTRUNNERS™ in honor of her mother.

The money that Connie raises as well as proceeds from the GUTRUNNERS™ 5K Race/1 Mile Walk at DDW will be dedicated to support our Colonoscopy Access Program (CAP), which provides free colonoscopies for uninsured patients and education on colon cancer, obesity and other digestive disorders.

COURSE

The 2nd Annual 5K Race began at historic Soldier Field (home of the Chicago Bears), ran south on the scenic lakefront running path, down to 31st Street Beach, then headed back north enjoying the spectacular Chicago skyline, finishing back at Soldier Field.
